Autonomous "without driver" cars will be built by Google

The company has developed prototypes for the car "without driver", without steering wheel, accelerator and brake pedals.

Google is working for several years on the project and said that the next step is to build 100-200 such autonomous cars. They will be built in partnership with car companies and will be used for testing.

A promotional video of such a prototype has already been released by the American company.

"The two-seater car resembles a gondola on wheels. Has no wheel, gas pedal and brake pedal. Instead, the machine uses its own sensors and software to do the job," writes American newspaper Wall Street Journal.

According to the company, autonomous cars can help decrease the number of road accidents.

The first prototype can reach a top speed of 25 miles (40 kilometers) per hour.

"We want to build about 100 cars prototype, and later in the summer our drivers will begin to test initial versions of these machines with manual control. If all goes well, we would like to conduct a small pilot project in California in the coming years" said Chris Urmson, director of Google's autonomous car project.
